Start with a stretch of the Quayside
A walk beside the Tyne gives you an easy introduction to Newcastle's riverside. Choose a section around the Tyne Bridge and allow time to look up at the streets leading into the centre. You can make this a short outing with a food stop rather than setting out to cover every bridge.
If you cross the river, you are exploring Gateshead as well as Newcastle. Check the location of the venue you want before arranging a meeting point, particularly if someone in your group needs a shorter or step-free journey.
Spend some time in Ouseburn
Ouseburn is a good place to bring several interests together. Seven Stories centres on children's books, while Ouseburn Farm offers another reason for a family visit. The surrounding valley has creative spaces, places to eat and local heritage to explore.
The Ouseburn Trust's visitor information helps with finding your way around. Its Victoria Tunnel tours offer a different way to learn about the area, with booking and visit information on the Trust's own website.
Make an evening of Grey Street
Browse the Theatre Royal programme for a performance that suits your group, then find somewhere nearby to eat. Choosing the show first makes it easier to plan the rest of the evening. For a more regular activity, look at art courses, community sports and local groups as well as one-off tickets.
Leave room for a quieter stop
Jesmond Dene or Exhibition Park can provide a change of pace from the centre. Keep the day manageable by choosing one main destination and a nearby extra. Ask venues directly about access and arrangements when booking, and check your return journey before settling into the evening.
